What Causes Extreme Pain In Hips, Knee, Neck And Back Joints?

The joints of my hips, knee, neck, back and more recently, my feet and hands are excruciatingly painful. I am female, 58 years old, moderately active (try to walk 5+ miles a day, have a VERY healthy diet, don t drink alcohol, but smoke cigarettes. I have had spinal fusion surgery about two years ago and feel that although the numbness has gone away, the neck pain is still severe. I ve asked my GP repeatedly to check my thyroid functions, as I believe with my low caloric intake and my excercise level, I should be able to lose weight. There is a family history of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Could I be doing more damage by continuing to walk (through the pain)?

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist 's  Response
hi,

thanks for providing a brief history of you.

it is good to hear that you walk 5+ miles each day. walking is a good exercise for the heart. but for individual muscles, a specific set of exercises are designed which can be done each day. also, you need to meet a physical therapist and undergo physical therapy session for your neck. Each time you will visit the physical therapist you will come across how you body is responding. Since your are 58, female, then you should expect the energy levels to be fluctuating due to the hormonal imbalance. Also, you need to consume good healthy diet rather trying to focus on losing weight. you should be physically fit irrespective of what weight you have. Drinking milk daily and performance weight bearing exercises will help built up bones stronger. also, taking sun bath will help improve the vitamin D levels in the natural form.

as age keeps moving ahead body loses its metabolism capacity which can be charged by performing regular exercises.

also to include is the respiratory exercises to improve the lung capacity and purification of blood as well.

do not bother about the RA and OA in the family history, try to enjoy the life and divert yourself with a physical therapist who will guide you the best.

joining a group therapy exercise classes will boost your psychological status and give you immense strength and positive approach.

With the grace of God I wish you a healthy life.
