What Causes Extreme Headache And Elevated BP Levels Post Menopause?

I am a very healthy 52 yr old female. I am in menopause (have not menstruated in 1 yr 4mos). all of the sudden, I acquired severe headache - back of neck, top of head, around temples - that sent me to the dr last week. my blood pressure was 165/85 - the highest ever upon my visit. normally my blood pressure is 116/68 and/or around there. It is has been extremely hot and humid this summer - not sure if low estrogen/progesterone, weather is culprit. Dr prescribed fiorocet 50-300-40mg, Inderal la 60mg. Fiorcet caused extreme stomach pain after 2 days - I stopped taking it and Inderal la 60mg makes me feel dizzy and just plain sick feeling. I am going to stop taking it. I plan to call my dr on Monday to tell him I just cant function with the meds he prescribed. Any suggestions for headaches and blood pressure? I have never had high blood pressure in my life and healthy.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The headache can be related to migraine which can be triggered after menopause.

I suggest using anti inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day to relieve the headache.

The high blood pressure should be maintained under control through regular measurements.

I suggest to use blood pressure medication such as which are prescription medication.

You should consult a cardiologist for further evaluation.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
