What Causes Excessive White Sputum And Breathlessness While Being HIV Positive?

HIV+ 56 yoa. PCP history but taking no meds for same at this time. Have a cough,producing white/clear sputum with soft to spongy consistency. X-ray negative, but problem seems to be getting worse (over the past month). Shortness of breath at times (1x daily average). Rattling heard via stethoscope in right lung, seems to be getting measurably worst over the past month.

HIV weakens your immune system gradually if left untreated. It appears to me that you are neglecting your disease by not taking medicines. Remember that HIV is a chronic problem like Hypertension, diabetes and you can remain healthy if you take medicines as per your doctor's advice. Though you haven't mentioned your country, Cough with white sputum (in a HIV patient) can be due to many things. Most common is PCP(more so as you have a history), TB is also important. If you have had PCP you should have been on secondary prophylaxis alongwith HAART(HIV MEDICINES). X-ray may not be suggestive but your increasing cough and shortness of breath are!
Do not worry but do not neglect either. Consult your doctor.
