Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Excessive Weight Loss Along With Vomiting And Fever?
MY daughter is 15. She has lost 7 pounds in a week, she has little to no appetite and she vomited two days ago and had a fever. Our primary has ordered blood work and an upper GI. However both will take time, I am concerned we don t have time do to her lack of appetite. It s concerning because our primary has no clue what it could be. My daughter has been sick off and on over the past 8-9 months but has never lost weight like this before. Should we just take her to the Hospital to be evaluated?
I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your daughter's symptoms could be related to a gastro-esophagal disorder, an infection or a psychological disorder.
For this reason, I would recommend taking her to the hospital and performing a fibrogastroscopy and some other tests (complete blood count, PCR, ESR, anti-gliadin antibodies for malabsorption, blood electrolytes, vitamin B12 plasma levels.)
You should discuss with her doctor on the above tests.
If all the above tests result normal, consulting with a psychiatrist or psychologist may be needed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka,
Cardiologist
