What Causes Excessive Vaginal Bleeding While On BC Pills?

Hi. I was taking the 90 day birth control for the first time & had light spotting through out it (figured it was my body getting use to not having an actual period for 3 months.) Now that I m on the inactive pills, my period has been really different. I m 5 days ish into my period & there has been large stringy like clots but just now before my shower, the blood gushed out as if I had just peed myself. My cramps have also been more painful than usual. Should I be concerned?

Hi,

After childbirth it is normal to expule the so-called lochia (secretion that contains blood, mucus or placental fluid). These loquios generally should disappear to the month or to be diminishing.

It is normal that at the beginning of your puerperium you had colic, but, since you mention 90 days have passed, we rule out the possibility that the bleeding is due to lochia.

We are now heading towards your menstruation, which as you mentioned, your body must first adapt to these changes.

If you do not present symptoms during bleeding such as dizziness, nausea, intense headache, drowsiness, generalized weakness, feeling of losing consciousness.

You could expect your cycle to repeat and see how your body is gradually adapting, or go directly to the gynaecologist so that he examines you and leave you out of doubts.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
