What Causes Excessive Urination And Constipation?

My 80 year old mom is on a portal being fed formula. She developed diarrhea and was ask for us to feed her Gatorade for a couple of days. She had not had a bowel movement for about 3 days now, however, her urine output is extremely HIGH. My question is the liquid in place of her bowel movement. We have measured her urine output verses the input is just about the same.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Nothing to worry about it, some times it may loss of fluids through respiratory passage low in cold climate or air conditioning rooms etc.

Also check for diabetes insepidus may be the reason. Some times diuretics medication cause poly urea.

Check for electrolyte imbalance or paralytic ileus or bowel obstruction for constipation.

Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
