What Causes Excessive Sweating And Palpitations Wile On Metoprolol?

I am 70yrs old female and have a history of afib. Had an ablation several years ago and have been doing well. Also am on metoperol 50mg 2xday. This past Thursday I had a flu shot and Friday I felt very warm and sweaty. After about 15 min it went away. I had another episode of feeling very warm on Saturday and then around midnight of that night awoke feeling very warm and sweating and was having palpitations. I did not feel dizzy or had any pain but was uneasy and afraid and I got up took a shower and was going to have my husband take me to ER but it subsided. The only other change in my life was that I started using Capcaisin on my knees the same day I received the flu shot. I thought maybe that I was just having an anxiety attack which I have had 20 years ago and none since. I then began to wonder about the flu shot. I have had them every year and have no problem being over 65 I received a double dose of anti virus vaccine. just wondering if coincidence or the flu shot could have caused it. I have a pacemaker so sent a strip to my cardiologist and will call them Monday morning to see what was going on. Things always happen on the week-end!!! Thank you

Hi,

Well, The amount of sweat considered normal is quite variable and depends on the demands of the body.

Excessive sweating, also called hyperhidrosis, means that you sweat far more than your body needs you to sweat.

For example, if you sweat while sitting calmly at your desk, that is excessive sweating.

In hyperhidrosis, the body's cooling mechanism is so overactive that it produces four or five times the amount of sweat that you need.

However, sometimes if sweating happens during the night or there is associated weight loss then it may indicate some more serious issues such as lymohima or hormonal imbalances.

In every case, if this persists you should see internist first to do some tests.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
