What Causes Excessive Hair Loss?

I am female and 68, I am loosing my hair. I think it might be related to my pituitary or thyroid glands. I am infertile, and was given hormones when I was 16 to start puberty. I have dry skin, high cholesterol, heavy around the waist, have dry skin, and a low basil temperature. My Thyroid levels are within range. Could I still have issues with my pituitary and if so who do I see?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It looks like you are experiencing hyperthyroidism symptoms. You say that thyroid levels are normal and at this point may be subclinical hypothyroidism. Anyway I recommend you to re do T3, T4, TSH. Maybe you need to take levothyroxine. According to your medical history maybe pituitary gland is not functioning causing panhypopituitarism that gives even hypothyroidism among other things. Try to contact an endocrinologist. Also I recommend you to do a total blood count to see if you suffer from anemia.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
