What Causes Excessive Daytime Sleepiness?

hello, my son has a severe problem with waking up and staying up in the morining and again anytime during the day can fall asleep on a dime. He was in a serious car accident a few years ago and has a closed head injury. He has custody of his 2 little girls and this is starting to affect them as well i need help any ideas what we can do to make him stay awake during the day

-going to bed earlier
-eliminating alcohol and caffeine consumption.
