What Causes Excessive Day Time Sleepiness?

Am 69. Can sleep 8-10 hours a night yet be sleepy by late morning. Sometimes sleeping 2-3 hours in afternoon and still sleep all night. Sleepiness related to prescription drugs I ve been prescribed: .025 Levothyroxine 10 mg Crestor 10 mg. citalopram I am not depressed, walk almost every day, and have no known health issues.

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

One posdibility for your sleepiness may be low thyroid function. Your dose of levothyroxine may not be enough and may need to be increased. A TSH level is needed to see if that is the case.

It may also be a side effect of Citalopram. I do not know when you take it, should take it in the morning.

Another possibility is sleep apnea which makes you sleep not well at night and be sleepy at daytime. Low thyroid function predisposes for sleep apnea as well.
