What Causes Excessive Crying While On Prozac?

My fiancée has been crying uncontrollably for 3 months now and he doesn t know or understand why. He s 46 years old and has been on Prozac since his early 30 s. He s been seeing a psychiatrist and besides the Prozac he has put him on 2 other medications. The first one was for bipolar disorder ( yet he wasn t diagnosed with bipolar disorder )that was a train wreck so he took him off and put him on another that s for depression only. That too did not work so he took away all of his meds thinking it could be the meds causing this but other than that, he has given us no answers. We went to an MD who suggested an MRI because my fiancée has had multiple concussions due to college football and the MRI showed nothing. We went to another MD who then said the MRI was a waist of time and that he needs a PET scan. He has now been waiting for 2 weeks for the center who reviews his files to see if he qualifies for a PET scan. He is extremely anxious, depressed, has high anxiety and the thought of suicide runs through his head often. He s an architect with quite a few projects on his plate and he isn t able to function mentally. He is always tired and it s extremely difficult for him to get out of bed because he fears facing the rest of the day. Again, all of this came on quickly over the past 3 months. Before that, he was just fine. I don t know who to turn to

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there. There is a lot of research recently put into a condition called Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy which occurrs after repeated concussions. It typically presents 8-10 later.
Pts with CTE have labile mood, become anxious, suicidal and forgetfull so its can possibly fit what you are explaining. If your husband is suicidal I recommend that you go and see a psychiatrist for review of suicidal risk and review of his treatment. Therapy might also be a good option combined with oral treatment.
There are a lot of options available
