What Causes Excess Vaginal Bleeding After Having Intercourse?

I was having deep penetrative sex with my partner and I bled after sex. Sometimes I bleed from the vagina due to tears however the bleeding appeared to be coming from much higher (like my cervix), should I be concerned? This is the first time it s happened?

Hello,

Bleeding after a penetrative sex is normal. The following are few other causes of bleeding after sex:
1) Pelvic inflammatory disease or infection of uterus and tubes
2) Vaginitis or infection of vagina like candidiasis, bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis
3) Sexually transmitted infections like chlamydia
4) Injury to the vagina or cervix in the form of tears during penetrative sex
5) Cervical polyps or masses
6) Endometriosis

My suggestions are as follows:
1) If it bleeds only once after intercourse, you can ignore.
2) If you bleed every time after intercourse, then it is to be taken seriously and consult a gynecologist for further evaluation.
3) To stop very heavy bleeding, you can take tab. Tranexamic acid 500 mg stat.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
