What Causes Esophageal Spasms While Eating Peanut Butter Sandwich?

Mine is a silly question. I some times get an esophageal spasm if I eat certain things too fast like the peanut butter sandwich that I tried to wolf before I had to teach class today. This was the worst one ever and I nearly fainted while I was trying to drink some water to move the sandwich plug along my now spasming esophagus. I am curious about what made me nearly faint. As I recall I could breath but my knees buckled and I struggled to stay concious.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi thank you for posting your query in HCM.
Oesophageal spasms did not occur due to consumption of peanut butter sandwich in your case, its most likely due to fast swallowing of the food. When the food is swallowed in hurry, there occurs abnormal functioning of nerves that control the muscles used for swallowing ultimately leads to improper and uncoordinated muscle contraction there by preving the food from moving down to the stomach, this causes the feeling of presence of lump or object stuck in the throat.
Hope i have answered your question if you have further questions i will be happy to help.
