What Causes Enlargement Of The Mastoid Process?

Hello. I am a 24 year old male. I have a job that keeps me active so I m in good shape and haven t noticed anything slowing me down or out of the ordinary. But yesterday I was feeling behind my ears and noticed that my mastoid process and my mastoid bone are bigger on my right side then my left. I don t feel any lymph nodes but didn t know if they were located behind the bone. I had war surgery when I was younger on my left side where they had to go in and scrape the bone. I also had a very bad wreck when I was 14 and broke had straight line fractures all over my face two broken jaws and a cracked skull. Could either of these be a reason why my mastoid are so different or do you think it is from something else?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

We have to rule out possible causes like a middle ear infection and mastoiditis.

Consult an ENT specialist and evaluated.

You have to get a CT scan for further assessment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
