What Causes Enlargement Of Spleen And Fatty Liver?

Hello My name is Ciarra, two years ago I had an abdominal/CT scan and it came back that I had an enlarged spleen of 14.5cm, and a fatty liver.. I didn t have too much pain. But when I went to donate plasma I had to lay on my back and have a spleen test done and she said it felt enlarged, and since she did that I ve been having a burning sensation and really bad pain... Is this something I need to go to the hospital about.. Am I dying? Or have a disease?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Spleen can be enlarged in various conditions varying from infections to haematological malignancies.
Infectious causes of enlarged spleen are:
Malaria, leishmaniasis, infectious mononucleosis
Haematological causes:
Spherocytosis, haemolytic anemia, storage diseases, malignancies like CML, Hodgkin disease etc.

You need to consult your physician for clinical assessment, investigations like complete hemogram and peripheral blood smear examination and biochemical parameters like liver function tests, kidney function tests to know the cause of enlarged spleen.

Fatty liver is caused by accumulation of fats in liver cells and is seen in alcoholism, diabetes mellitus, malnutrition, starvation and obesity.
In case any of the above mentioned risk factors are present, then that is the probable cause of fatty liver and the condition needs to be reversed to reverse the condition.
Fatty liver is reversible if the risk factor is reversed well in time.

Thanks and take care
