Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have 3 lymph nodes in my neck ranging in size 1.4 cm and larger..2 of them my report states loss of normal fatty hilum probably due too reactive changes..my physician had me do a CT scan with contrast and told me my results were fine ..should I still worry..cancer runs very strongly on both sides of my family..even my granddaughter was diagnosed at 4 mos of age..last year they found benign cysts in my right breasts that I now have to get a mammogram for every year
Hello and welcome to HCM, Lymph node enlargement can occur as a reactive process secondary to infection, inflammation, malignancy or primary malignancy or lymphoma or cancer of the lymph nodes. A family history of malignancy or lymphoma increases the risk of developing lymphoma. I suggest you to get an aspiration cytology of these lymph nodes to determine the cause and nature of the lesions. Reactive lymph nodes secondary to infection and inflammation usually subside spontaneously once the infectious focus is treated. Benign cysts in breasts need to followed up at regular intervals to look for development of cancer.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
