Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Elevation In Blood Sugar Levels Post Total Knee Replacement Surgery?
I had a total knee replacement last week and am taking percocet for pain management. I am a Type ll diabetic and using 15 units of Lantus and 100 mg Januvea to control it. My typical fasting blood sugars have been around 100 +/- 10. Since the surgery my readings have been elevated 150 - 190. Is the percocet or the surgery causing this increase? Well my numbers come down after I stop taking the percocet?
HI Well come to HCM I really appreciate your concern, such high glucose level could be due to post surgical stress some time this could due to sever pain, in my opinion you need to increase the dose of antidiabetic medicine or better to see the physician second infection need to be ruled out, hope this information helps, try to low down the stress, take care.
