What Causes Elevated Liver Enzymes?

I have a friend who is in the hospital with enzyme levels reaching 3,000. The doctors have ran all types of tests but cannot find any reason why the levels are so high. They are now testing for rare diseases. How long can he go with levels this high before his liver will give out?

Hello,

Elevated liver enzymes may be due to
1. Acute hepatitis maybe due to hepatitis A, E.
2. Chronic hepatitis in hepatitis B, C viral infections.
3. Drug-induced liver injury.
4. Hemochromatosis.
5. Wilsons disease.
6 CMV infection.
7. Malaria, Lyme's disease.
8. Autoimmune Hepatitis.
Alcoholic hepatitis still many causes. Without knowing the cause it is difficult to say what it is, treatment always depends on the diagnosis. Please follow your gastroenterologist orders he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
