What Causes Elevated Liver Enzymes?

Hello, I am 19 years old and Male and just got my results from my liver blood test. My AST was 64 and AST at 76, I was made aware that they were elevated so I am booked in for a ultrasound. Could this be a result of high intensity weightlifing in the gym 5x per week and also since last month I have been injecting a GH Peptide (GHRP-6) 4x per week once a day. Although I am aware a high protein and carb fuelled diet could be the result of this I am still uneasy and would like someone else s opinion. Thank You!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there and thanks for asking us on HCM.

A high protein and carb diet on its own can mildly raise liver enzymes as the liver needs to work a little harder to help you process the excess nutrients.

GH peptide is known to mildly raise liver enzymes transiently too.

An AST of 64 and ALT of 76 or ALT of 64 and AST of 76 is mild elevation - when liver enzymes are 3 times the value of the upper limit, then there is need to worry. Meanwhile, it is good to go for the scan to ensure all is well. Consider repeating these enzyme values in 3 months since you are on GH peptide.

Good luck.
