What Causes Elevated Levels Of Liver Enzymes?

I went for my 6 mo blood check and had high liver enzyme levels of 46 AST and 70 LST. Doctor requested second test week later it it was much higher 65 AASY and 170 LST. I am on a minimal dosage of staten for past year and half. I drink occasionally maybe total of 5 in a week. Why are these so elevated and why did it go up so quickly. I am a blood donor and prior to first test I had donated double red cells. Any idea what is happening?

Hello,
Welcome to Health Care Magic. I read carefully your query and I understand your concern.
The cause of your elevated blood test liver enzyme probably are the statin drugs that you mentioned here you used for past year and half, during the intake of this medication every three month you should monitor the liver enzyme because the main side effects of this medication is affecting the liver.
For this reason I recommend you to stop the medication for a while, until the enzyme go to their normal range and prefer during this time a healthy diet with low saturated fat food, 5 portion of vegetable and fruit, avoid sweats, do every day minimally 30 minutes of brisk walking for maintain a normal level of your lipid blood profile that you suffer because statins are prescribed for high value of blood lipid profile.
I recommend to repeat the liver enzyme blood test after the interruption of statins and monitor the blood lipid profile, if there is a change on the liver enzyme value, it supports that the cause are statins if not you should do other examination to determine the cause other lab test examination and an abdominal echo.
I recommend you to follow your problem with a gastroenterologist or hepatologist.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Kind regard,
Dr .Marsida Janko
