What Causes Elevated Iron Level In The Blood?

I have a high iron level in my blood. My ferritin level was elevated in June. It was 3657 the day after it was 2697. My last phlebotomy was Dec. 6. My ferritin was 2572 Dec 8. It had finally dropped to 1706 last month. Now its back up. I watch what I eat and am not taking anymore iron. Shouldn t my ferritin level be dropping more?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Have you been screened for hemachromatosis? Your Ferretin level is not important on its own.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
