What Causes Elevated Heart Rate?

I am a female age 57 who has been dieting and working out w/cardio & wts at least 3x/wk for over 2mos! Last night I got up to get a snack and my heart started racing! I couldn t stand w/o feeling like I d pass out so I went to bed and slept well! This morning I got up around 8:30 and managed to make it to the kitchen and scrambled one egg and two whites w:cheese thinking I may need more protein! I have since eaten a codfish sandwich and some almonds but every time I get up and walk the same happens!! I am disabled and have been taking Lyrica for 5 mos now 100mg x 2/day! I have never experienced anything like this before but had gastric bypass surg in 2007 and have had a stomach ulcer and low Hgb levels! I decided to take iron today but was hoping u could alleviate any fear since I am not in pain or SOB!! I was wondering if it could b from eating shrimp yesterday that may have been bad or viral? Will call Dr tomorrow but it s gonna b difficult getting there if I can t even stand up!! Ty!!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It is just a transient response and will settle by itself.

If the symptoms persist, you can consult a cardiologist and plan for a serial ECG monitoring to rule out possible arrhythmias.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
