What Causes Elevated Heart Rate And Light Headedness In An Elderly Person?

Hi, My mom took her blood sugar and it s 205 which is very high for her. She is 83. She is complaining of a rapid heart rate and lightheadedness. She says her heart rate will go down then the lightheadedness slows down, but then it gets high again. Should this be a concern?

Hi,

thank you for briefing the history of your mother.

As i read the history, i feel it is just ageing related symptoms which are common at this age. Usually as ageing goes longer, the HR, Sugar levels, headache all stays for a while and vanishes of its own.

In my clinical practice i see geriatrics very often and the complain list is always big. Since sometimes it is even psychological to take a pill. I recommend them to perform the regular breathing exercises, general body exercises and short distance walking. By this, the metabolism improves, circulation improves, immune system improves, blood sugar levels also reduce. It takes for things to work out as the body is ageing, but due to lack of mobility, the symptoms like - headache, increase HR, increase BGL, etc keeps a constant move, but with breathing exercises, meditation, general exercises and short distance walking helps them.

This is a common issue for which i do not think you should worry, but always it is safer to get once checked on a safer side.
