What Causes Elevated Blood Sugar Levels?

hello Question: I have recently seen a 75 to 100 point increase in blood sugar. I believe it is due to flomax. I am also taking Zyrtes and Metformin ER. For several days I have taken prednizone and Azithromycin due to a sinus infection and severe cold. Two hours after dinner tonight my blood sugar was 366; it was 206 this morning prior to breakfast. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Steroids are the well-known cause of elevated blood sugar levels. So if you are taking Prednisone, this is probably the cause of a rise in sugar level.

I would advise to reduce it or stop it after consultation with your doctor. Hopefully, sugar level would come down. If it is not fine then you should see your doctor adjust your drugs. But it looks it's the drugs causing it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
