What Causes Elevated Blood Sugar Levels After Taking Novastat?

After insertion of stent in Aug last week, i have been given Novastat 20mg by Cardiogist. After 3 months in the followup test my Fasting glucose 127, Post lunch 134 and HBA1c is 6.5. I am afraid i am in diabetes range. I feel this is drug induced diabetes range. must be the side effect of Novastat 20mg. When i explained to my cardiologist he reduced to 10mg per day. I feel it is also not necessary. My medical prescription is under:
Metxl50mg at 8 am, angispan 1-1, clopilet A150 0-1-0, novastat 20mg 0-0-1,
which drug wld have induced the diabetes level? then whats the alternative medicine for it?

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Yes elevated blood sugar levels could occur after taking Novastat. It is common side effect of statins group of medicines such as novastat. Your reports of Fasting glucose 127, Post lunch 134 and HBA1c is 6.5 indicate that your are having mild diabetes or are diabetes prone. All other medicines like Metolar xr, angispan & clopilet a 150 should not cause increased blood sugar.
Novastat is given to patients with coronary heart disease to reduce the cholesterol in blood as this is a risk for future heart problem. You should decerease the amount of fats in diet. Take fibers in abundance in diet & do regular exercise. After this your blood cholesterolcould become normal.
If your blood cholesterol becomes normal then you could stop novastat by consulting your cardiologist.

Refer to your cardiologist

Hope this helps
