What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Levels?

I takes Diovan for my high blood pressure for many years and my blood pressure under control Last week my doctor gave me Hydrocortisone then my blood pressure went up high , as high as 160/80 Does Hydrocortisone cause my blood pressure went up ? Thank you

Hello,

Hydrocortisone and any corticosteroid does cause blood pressure elevation, particularly if the patient does not reduce sodium (salt) intake. I don't have enough data to suggest further action as I don't know why hydrocortisone was prescribed to you.

If hydrocortisone is not necessary any more than stopping it will solve the problem. Until then you should reduce sodium intake, including hidden sodium sources like cheese, bread, salami, etc.
