What Causes Elevated WBC Count?

Hi, I m 29 years old, i recently had my complete body medical checkup, everything is fine except the wbc count, i got elevated wbc count of 14.5 . The doctor said TLC is high but DLC is normal. I could not understand what he said. Pleasr help me to understand his above statement. Do elevated wbc 14.5 is a problem? And how can i lower it down. Thanks

Welcome to H.C.M. I am Dr Krishna Dubey.
My pleasure to help you.

TLC or total leukocyte count is a blood test that measures the number of white blood cells in the body.
Normal Range is 4000 to 11000/cumm.

DLC (Differential Leukocyte Count) measures the percentage of each type of white blood cell or leukocyte in your blood. There are five types of normal WBCs or white cells that occur in your blood. Their respective normal range in adults is as follows:

Neutrophils or Polymorphs: 40 – 60%
Lymphocytes (B and T cells): 20 – 40%
Monocytes: 2 – 8%
Eosinophils: 1 – 4%
Basophils: 0.5 – 1%
Band or young neutrophils: 0 – 3%

Your TLC is high so I suggest to repeat TLC and peripheral blood film to find out any abnormal cell in blood.

This will help to find out the cause of increased TLC and further management.

Thanx for query. Keep in touch.
