What Causes Elevated RBC Count And Broken Blood Vessels In The Eyes?
I have been told my red cell production is too high to have knee replacement surgery at this time. I was at 63 and am now down to 55 after 7 blood letting sessions. The PA saw my left eye looked like it had a burst vein. She asked about it and her demeanor seemed very concerned but did not tell me anything beyond that. What would she be most concerned ab out?

with your description I thing you are suffering from polycythemia rubra Vera
It is a disorder which ultimately leads to increase red cell production and may lead to formation of clots in body It might be possible that you have one such clot in your eyes. It's a serious problem it has happened and may lead to blindness.
As your post doesn't mention that you are blind so possiblity of this is very low.
however your veins may have engorged that may be of concern.
consult a hematologist for expert management and wish you all the best.
