What Causes Elevated D-Dimer Level?

I had an elevated d dimer. I Irritable bowel syndrome and I had just been through a bad bought of diarrhea for 7 weeks for IBS and gluten intolerance that I discovered my self .. the diarrhea stopped when I got off gluten.. would it be normal for my d dimer to be elevated 5 times its normal level due to this ?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
D-dimer is elevated in disseminated intra-vascular coagulation disoder and other thrombotic disorders.
Elevation of d-dimer is suggestive of a thrombotic event in body.
However, d-dimer is not associated with inflammatory bowel disease.
