What Causes Elevated BP While On Avelox And Prednisone?

I was 6 with flu symptoms for 6 days when to a walk in clinic 4 days ago and received dx. Of bacterial pneumonia in right lobe. Rx=Avelox and prednisone. Feeling better, but noticed BP which is usually around 130/70 is now 170/78. Is this something of concern or just a byproduct of the illness. I take ramipril 5mg and I wondered if during this period I should double it? I am on vacation and have regular physician to see.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

One.common side effect of prednisolone is to raise the BP. So yes, it may be the reason for your high Bp.

Keep checking your BP after you stop prednisolone. Hopefully, it would be down.

In case it's still high for many days we can always increase the dose of lisinopril.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
