What Causes Elevated BP And Weakness On The Right Side Of The Body?

My mother is nearly 81 years old . HX of HTN and angina. Currently my mothering is taking 200 Mb Cordarone daily and Lopressor 25 MG BID. She was seen My a cardiologist over a year ago. Her EKG was Sinus Brady at that time. I noticed lately that she is very low 46 to 50. she is also Stage 7 Alzheimer s. other medications are 81 mg ASA daily, Calcium Vit D3 800 IU daily, Norco 5/325 TID, Neurontin 100 Mg 2 caps in the evening Protonix, Trazodone 50 MG cut in half every other day, Melatonin 5 MG every other day, Namenda 10 MG BID. I took her to Urgent care the other night and the EKG was pretty much the same Sinus Brady. The PA told me to discontinue her morning does of Lopressor. I felt more inclined to decrease the cordarone. I have monitored her B? as 188/66 and 180/68 and 188/74 over the past few mornings pulse was about the same 48, 50 and 52. I might also add I believe she had a stroke about 7 months ago. It was undetected however she has right sided weakness which is her dominant side. Her doctor is aware of and has examined her after the weakness was detected and ordered OT. I think we did a CT scan on her too which was negative for any bleeds. Also she has fallen twice and sustained head injuries both times with the need for staples in the back of her head. wondering if I could get an opinion on this?

Hi,

Your explanation is a little bit confusing for me. I wonder if you need an opinion for her bradycardia, hypertension or stroke problem?

Anyway, I will give some advice on her stroke which is very important. First, you should note that the most important cause of stroke is hypertension. So, controlling her blood pressure is very important.

Second, having a negative CT scan does not rule out the stroke (especially the ischemic type which has no bleeding).

Third, falling is a very important problem in elderly patients, especially if they have a history of stroke.

Falling can trigger a new hemorrhagic stroke and also can cause vertebral or pelvic fractures due to the bone loss that they already have.

Fracture at the elder stage can make the patient complete bed ridden and also can cause other complications such as venous thrombosis.

So, it is very important that your mother is evaluated by a Rehabilitation specialist to see what is the status of her right upper and lower limbs, balance, walking and other problems. If I had information about those, I could give you some advice.

Overall, rehabilitation techniques (including physiotherapy and occupational therapy) are aimed to increase her remaining abilities and also achieve new abilities.

The rehabilitation plan will be made according to the power of major muscle groups as well as some other tests such as coordination tests. In some cases, non-invasive brain stimulation (such as rTMS) could potentiate the rehabilitation effect.

Overall, you should focus on controlling blood pressure and consult a Rehabilitation specialist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
