What Causes Elevated A1C Test Results?

Hi I my ankle was crushed 1 year ago in a construction accident. I have had 3 surgeries and as of today the wound will not heal completely. I had an A1C test done two weeks ago and my numbers came back 11.7. They are now saying I need to see my primary care doctor for treatment for diabetes. Could this be a result from the trauma my ankle went through?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
No. The diabetes isn't a result of your trauma. But diabetes is the reason why you're injuryisnt being healed. 11.7 is really high HbA1C and requires treatment, ideally should be less than 6.5-7 . If left untreated can cause adverse result on your kidneys, your injury and eyes.
