What Causes Edema In The Legs And Feet While On Gabapentin?

I have been experiencing swelling in my legs and feet since I was prescribed Gabapentin 300 mg 2 capsules 4 times a day. I have been taking this for many years. I have developed a redness beginning at my ankles and going part way up my leg ending at my calf, again this has been this way for many years. Yesterday, I have developed water blisters in the same area.

Hi,

Gabapentin cannot cause skin-related side effects. So I don't think your lower limb edema, skin redness and blisters are due to Gabapentin.

The possibility of cellulitis (infection of the skin) is more likely. So better to consult a dermatologist and get done a clinical examination of the skin.

You may need higher oral antibiotics, topical antibiotic cream, glycerine and magnesium sulphate dressing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
