What Causes Eczema-like Rashes In The Underarms Despite Using Cortisone Cream?

Hi! My six year old tends to get excema/mild asthma. However, at the moment she has a rash on her upper arm about the size of a 50 cent piece that is a circle. It is raised like excema, but redder than she usually gets, and there s not much in the middle of the rash. It doesn t seem to have changed over the past two days with her usual cortisone cream. She is also not scratching it the way she does her usual rashiness. Does this sound like something I should take her to her pediatrician for? Thank you!

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello,

Your daughter concern may be Atopic diathesis. It is a type of eczema with not enough skin protection. Start using good oatmeal containing moisturizer twice daily even the skin is normal.

Avoid leather, harsh detergents, dust exposure. Use Elidel ointment in the night and hydrocortisone in the morning on affected areas. This may help her.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sandeep Golla
