What Causes Easy Bruising On The Arms?

I am a 67 year old male. The last couple of years my hands and arms bruise easily. For instance, I had an itch on the back of my hand and I scratched the itch. Within minutes most of the back of my hand had turned black. When this happens it will take a month for the bruising to fade. Is this just an age related issue or can it be treated?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.
With advance of age there are many changes in our body from inside as well as out side. Skin becomes thin, dry, scaly. The skin blood vessels become fragile. & these break with mildest form of trauma ( may be itching as in your case ) The blood collects under skin to change the skin color.
Mostly it heals by itself over the time of 2-3 weeks or longer in older persons. Ice pack for 20 minutes after the trauma helps lessening the effect & also early healing.
Thanks
