Hello. I was exposed to an exploding tire in October of last year and have experienced a ringing in one ear as well as a full feeling in that ear with very mild hearing loss. Three general practioners examined it and told me I had a small amount of fluid behind my eardrum that needed to be drained. Today, I saw an (elderly) ENT specialist and he told me there was no evidence of fluid and that the situation was more than likely permanent. Is it worth seeking a second opinion?
Your ENT is probably right; as he has examined your ears. Loud exposure to sound often leads to loss of hearing, sometimes permanent by affecting the nerves involved in hearing. This also results in the ringing sensation in the ears. If it is mild and you can ignore it, your brain will adapt to ignore it. In case it is too much you may have undergo tinnitus retraining therapy. Sometimes using hearing aids to improve the hearing also lessens the ringing.
