What Causes Ear Congestion?

My left ear is plugged and it feels like I have someones hands over it. I went to the doctor yesterday. Dr said my left ear is clear but the right ear is plugged. They cleaned out the wax buildup in the right ear and said sometimes when the one ear had the problem the other ear shows issues. Well today it has not changed and my left ear seems to be worse. The They told me to take sudafed and today is the second day on it. My nose is clear not issues there.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.

You can have viral ear infection associated with impacted wax. For your problem antihistaminic drug can be prescribed for five days. You can complete the course of prescribed antihistaminic medication. If no improvement than Otoscopy ear examination and hearing test is advisable by your otorhinolaryngologist.

Hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
