What Causes Ear Congestion While Having Sinus Infection?
Hello Dr. Bhatti, I had a chest/sinuses cold for about 5 weeks. When I went to the doctor they said I had a double ear infection. I took the Augmentin for the prescribed 10 days. My coughing and cold have almost completely cleared up but my ears still feel extremely blocked like as if I have cotton in my ears.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of ear congestion while having sinus infection which means you are suffering from condition known as chronic sinusitis. Sometimes mucus from sinus through post nasal drip goes into ear through eustachian tube and cause ear infection ,which is probably the reason in your case. It could be due to infection in lymph nodes as well/ eustachian tube dysfunction as well. I would suggest you to take nasal decongestant sprays, Antihistamines and antibiotic combination as infection is present. Co amoxiclav is best treatment option. You should take steam inhalation. Avoid intake of outside food. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. Go for paranasal sinus X ray and get puncture and drainage of sinus if required. Apply dry warm compresses to external ear 2-3 times a day and keep it dry. You can go for surgical reconstruction of opening after proper prescription. Doctor may also prescribe antibiotics along with decongestants. Do warm saline gargles.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
