What Causes Dryness In The Nostrils?

Thank you. For years I have used plastibase ointment, purchased thru a pharmacy. My nose, inside, gets very dry - particularly at night. I was using vasaline until a doctor said that was not good, as it could go down into my lungs and create a problem. He recommended Plastibase because it was water soluable and would not have negative long term effects on the lungs. Now I can no longer find an outlet for plastibase and still have the drying problem. Suggestions, please.Thanks you Darlene YYYY@YYYY

I have reviewed your query and here are my thoughts.

First of all we have to find the reason for dryness of nose.
Following are one of the reasons:
Atrophic Rhinitis , in which the secretions of the nose get reduced so much that it can not maintain the wetness the nose needs and becomes a disease with further complications of scaling, secondary infection and so on.
Sensation of dryness is a part of a empty-nose-syndrome.
Hence is it obligatory to have an ENT endoscopy and know the exact cause of dryness.
If there is atrophic rhinitis you need a specific treatment.
This contains cleaning of the nose with soda-bicarb solutions.
Antibiotic cover if there is a secondary infection.
Multivitamins, mineral and iron supplements.
Avoiding dry and hot conditions.
If there is a empty nose syndrome you may need an assistance of a Psychiatrist.
