What Causes Dryness And Pain In The Vagina After Taking Amoxicillin?

Hi I am on 500 mg of amoxicillin right now 3 times daily because I had my tonsils removed a week ago and it s to prevent infection I guess. I started to notice that my vagina and clitoris are painful to the touch, very dry, agitated and sometimes it burns when I pee. Is this normal? Should I see a doctor or should I stop taking my pills ?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my surgical experience, the dryness and pain in the vagina indicates suppression of vaginal flora homeostasis making it prone to fungal infection most likely. I would suggest to consult your OBGYN for vaginal swab and further guidelines. Till that time:
- Pause the intake of further doses of amoxicillin
- Have plenty of liquids
- Vaginal hygiene care
- Probiotics as fresh yogurt helps greatly
- Local application of lavender oil after tub bath with epsom salt

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
