What Causes Dry Cough Along With Shortness Of Breath And Fatigue?

I have had a nonproductive cough, inspiratory and expiratory wheezes in bilateral upper lobes, major fatigue, and shortness of breath with exertion (including coughing fits) for a week. The ED gave me an albuterol inhaler, tessalon pearls, cough med. with codeine, and Tamiflu. I have had minimal improvement with these. I am staying well hydrated and getting lots of rest. Chest Xray and CT angio were negative. All other labs were normal. ECG showed a LBBB but I don t see how that would relate to my symptoms. No history of lung problems. Am I missing something or do I just need to be patient and wait it out?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of dry cough along with shortness of breath and fatigue which is due to lung infection leading to bronchitis. Poor immunity exaggerating your symptoms. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles with pinch of salt water. Avoid taking hot, spicy and fried food. Avoid cold carbonated beverages and don't smoke and alcohol. Take expectorants. Steam inhalation is very effective for you. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist without any delay . Doctor may order blood test , throat swab test or virus culture test. You should get an x ray of the chest and Immunoglobulin G levels checked for further treatment. Take decongestant nasal sprays containing mucinex for instant relief. Apply humidifiers in room.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
