What Causes Dry And Peeling Skin On Hands When Diagnosed With Viral Flu Infection?

I have had a viral flu for approximately 3-4 weeks. I no longer have a fever or sinus infection but I still have a cough. My doctor told me that it is a viral flu and to treat it with neti pot and a Nasonex. The last two days I noticed the skin on the pal of my hands is dry and peeling. Is this from the flu or something I should be concerned about. Thank you.

Hello,

Dry and peeling skin on the hands is indicative of infection, diabetes, poor circulation, dehydration, fluctuating humidity, cold air, hot showers, etc. You are suggested to stay well hydrated. Make sure your body electrolyte system is normal. Your blood glucose level should be normal as high blood glucose triggers peeling and drying of skin.

Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, Keep a room humidifier. Get flu treated at the earliest. Take well balanced home made food. You can apply calamine lotion or water based moisturizer on the area affected. You can also apply aloe vera based moisturizer. If you have infection, at bed time apply Neosporin ointment / Soframycin ointment or a thin layer of hydrocortisone ointment for relief. Take diet rich in vitamin C and vitamin E, vitamin K and D. You can also take supplements.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
