What Causes Drowsiness And Vomiting In A Child?

My son took a knee to his head during a pick up football game (11 years old). He did not lose consciousness, but came home and threw up. . .and has been sleeping for about 3 hours straight. Should I let him sleep? He was not confused. . .but just didn t feel good.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

With the events you mentioned, its unlikely for him to have any significant head injury. But still we need to be a bit cautious. If this is not his usual sleeping time, try to awaken him and talk to him- If he feels drowsy after 5 min of waking, or continues to have projectile vomiting, or complains of severe headache- take him to emergency without delay, as in these situations we may need a CT scanning to rule out head injury. If he is feeling fine after waking up, no further vomiting or head ache - nothing to worry.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K, Pediatrician
