I have been prescribed levocetirizine and would like to know if will make me super drowsy. My symptoms are drainage, a bit of a sore throat, sneezing and watery eyes. It sounds like this is what I need but sometimes anti hystamines make me too drowsy. I also take a 5 mg. ambien about midnight for sleep so should I still take that.. Thank you.. Cecelia Wood

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Levocetirizine is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms.

Dryness and especially dry mouth is a common side effect of Levocetirizine. I would recommend you to drink liquids. I also recommend using over the counter eye drops.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
