What Causes Dizziness While Suffering From Hypertension?

My husband has high blood pressure. He has been on amlodipine/benazepril 5mg/20 mg combination for some time now. He is bothered by dizzy spells when he takes this drug. We tried to change it to just benazepril and his blood pressure was too high. We also tried to go to 2.5 mg of amlodipine and 20 mg of benazepril taken as separate pills, the dizziness went away but his blood pressure was still way too high. Dyastolic over 100 and systolic up in the 150s and 160s. We just a few days ago went back to the 5 mg/20 mg combination of amlodipine/benazepril. After about 4 days his blood pressure is back down to 103/65 and he has been so dizzy today he almost passes out. I don t know what to do. Our email address is YYYY@YYYY

Hi thank you for querry,
HTN
as in your case for the treatment of hypertension 1st line treatment is ACE inhibitor like benazepril in young age group and in old calcium channel blocker like amlodipine is the 1st line if its not in control with these single one than combination of both are used that also minimise the side effect and good BP controll
if its not controll with these than diuretics add or if not tolerated B blockers are used if there is no obvious contraindication.
as well side effect are concerned both medicine you are taking causes dizziness.
titrate dose with life style and diet modification and other group of medicine may be helpful after consultation woth your doctor.
