What Causes Dizziness While On Enalapril?

Usually I was taking Enalapril 10mg for my BP meds, then my doctor switch it to Lisinopril 10mg. I know that they are both the same ACE inhibitor, but the side effect of the latter is too much for me like lightheaded and coughing. After I emptied the bottle of Lisinopril, I switched to Enalapril that are leftovers. I noticed when I got back to Enalapril, somehow the lightheaded was minimized. The only problem was the BP sys is 150-140 compared to Lisinopril 130-120. My questions are, is there a problem going back to Enalapril? If there is no problem, Can I take 2 tablets a day of Enalapril to make it at 20mg for the purpose of lowering down the Sys.? I appreciate your response.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Basically, I would consider the two medications to be the same, and usually use the same doses, though some patients, like you may respond differently to them. I cannot think of any problems switching from Lisinopril to Enalapril. I also do not think there should be any problems increasing the dose of Enalapril from 10 mg to 20 mg, though I would recommend you tell the physician who prescribed the medication to you first.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
