What Causes Dizziness In A Child?

Recently, my 8-year-old daughter has been complaining of dizziness. She is not ill in the sense that she has no fever, cold, flu, etc. It is 12:50 am and she is awake because her dizziness awakened her from sleep. Other health issues include hypothyroidism. She has been taking levothyroxine for over a year. I cannot think of any changes in diet, lifestyle, or health that would contribute to this dizziness. And this is the first time it has awakened her.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I think the reason of the dizziness your child is experiencing comes from hypothyroidism. I would suggest you to do a visit with his doctor to do thyroid examinations to see if he is taking the right dose of levothyroxine or is he yet not stabilized. After clarification of this point we can go and seek for other causes. Don't ignore it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
