What Causes Dizziness, Dry Mouth, Unfocused Mind And Drowsiness After Taking Benadryl?

I took benadryl (diphenhedramine) for allergy to pollen--locals are saying it's the cedar tree-- but the medication has made me very dizzy, unable to concentrate, sleepy--dangerously--. Also dry mouth. On the other hand, sometimes the itchy watery aspect of allergy seems to be made worse while taking benadryl, so what's the deal? Any recommendations for a different antihistamine? I can never find the ideal one. Thank You

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern....

As per your complain dizziness, dry mouth, lack of concentration and sleepiness are all side effects of taking the antihistamine Benadryl and you should immediately stop the intake and consult a Physician and first of all get an allergic testing done for antihistamines and after getting tested the physician can prescribe you with the appropriate drug like Claritin [Loratidine], Allegra [Fexofenadine] ,Phenargan [Promethazine] etc for for relieving your allergic symptoms..
You can also be advised with oral and inhalant steroids for relief of the allergy symptoms..
You should also take precaution and should not drive or go out alone or should not do any heavy work when you have the side effects of benadryl as it can lead to accidents..
