What Causes Dizziness And Vomiting While On Meclizine?

I was n the hospital with severe dizziness/vertigo and vomiting for 2 nights. Have been given Meclizine tablets for home use and was treated with an IV anti-nausea drug, an anti vertigo patch behind my ear as well as the Meclizine. Was discharged yesterday with decreased symptoms but I am still experiencing the dizziness and have trouble keeping my balance/walking. How long should I expect this to last? The testa were negative ( still waiting on the EEG results) but they saw nystagmus when my eyes moved from side to side. The head movement/hanging over the table trick (don t know the name of the procedure) for ear stones was tried.

Hello,

You may have Vertiginous Syndrome, also known as Vertigo. Detailed Answer:

Symptoms of a Vertigo disease may include dizziness or spinning sensation (vertigo), problems with balance or walking and It may be associated with nausea, vomiting, and eye nystagmus.

This disease involves the excessive buildup of fluid in your inner ear. The cause is often not clear.

It may be due to a virus, but it can also arise from bacterial infection, head injury, extreme stress, an allergy, or as a reaction to the medication. It may including inflammation of the inner ear.

Meclizine is an antihistamine drug that is used to prevent and treat nausea, vomiting and to reduce dizziness and loss of balance (vertigo) caused by inner ear problems.

If your doctor has prescribed this medication, take it as directed. This inner ear problem usually goes away in one to six weeks.

Dizziness alone is often not much cause for concern, but if you experience vomiting, double vision, or trouble using your arms or legs, you should get immediate medical attention.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
