What Causes Dizziness And Low BP While Withdrawing From Labetalol?

I have been taking Labetalol HCL 300 mg twice daily for 2 years (after a stoke)and Losartan 100 mg now once daily for about seven months. My physician has me tapering off Labetalol by taking 300mg once a day and no Losartan for 4 days. (Today was my last day for Labetalol). I resume taking the Losartan 100mg tomorrow , no more Labetalol. I have recently lost 20 lbs and I was feeling lightheaded and dizzy from my pressure dropping too low. Is this taper safe? Seems quick for a med I been taking for so long.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per my clinical experience, the current condition of dizziness is due to sudden stoppage of Labetalol and making body devoid of beta blocker activity potentiating low BP.

Maintain your hydration with plenty of liquids and telephone your doctor's office immediately for further guidelines.

Wish this will help you.

Take care.
